An excellent example of a two-sided quilt. 
The back represents the inner life, the front, the dress-up we wear to face the world.

Closing talk for In The Middle of The World now on Youtube

Melanie Girdwood-Brunton, exhibition manager at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum beautifully introduces the closing question and answer session with Miranda Bouchard and the two artists, Judith E Martin and Penny Berens on the YouTube video. 

Michael Rikley-Lancaster the executive director/curator is generous in his closing remarks. 

The exhibition was very well received.  It will next show in Kenora Ontario at the Muse gallery March 20 - June 17 2023.  A catalogue of the exhibition will be published in January 2023.

You tube video of opening artist talk: Penny Berens, Judy Martin In the Middle of the World

Judy Martin and Penny Berens speak about how their work is inspired by their rural environments in this You tube video produced by the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum.  The talk was produced during a live zoom event on September 29 2021 before the exhibition opened.  

The exhibition, 'In the Middle of the World' showed at the museum October 2 - December 18, 2021.  

Miranda Bouchard, guest curator, worked with Penny and Judy while they prepared work for the show and provides an introduction in the video.  While she is speaking, you can see the installation happening with a time-lapse recording.  Judy speaks next for 15 minutes and shows images of her inspiring view across Manitowaning Bay and then Penny speaks about her deep observing of nature.  At the end of the video there is a lengthy question and answer period extending the whole thing to nearly one and a half hours.  Thank you to Ryan Milton at the MVTM for helping to produce this video.

A second artist talk with Miranda, Penny and Judy happened as a closing celebration on December 18, 2021.  It was recorded, and hopefully the video will be available soon.

Videos from rhe Elemental Festival in Kagawong

This just in:   A video put out by the Woodland Sisters, Caitlin and Cassidy Mcauliffe.  One of their partner's made it while the duo were in Kagawong at the end of September during the 2nd annual Elemental festival.  The video follows the two girls as they enjoy the rural atmosphere of Manitoulin and the Kagawong River complete with spawning salmon and Bridal Veil Falls.  Their video is up on youtube now.  It's a minute and a half.  It is necessary to click on the words Elemental Festival after it starts to play to see the full images.

Opening of Threadworks 2013

Judy e Martin spoke at the opening of Threadworks 2013 on April 28.  The exhibition continues until June 9 at the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
